How To Maintain Your Fitness Resolutions
How To Maintain Your Fitness Resolutions
At this time of the year, we’re all making resolutions and plans for the coming 12 months. In fact, a recent poll by Insider found that nearly 400 of the 1,102 people they questioned would be setting resolutions related to exercise.
Of course, most of us fail to stick to our new year’s resolutions much beyond January, but if your goals relate to your fitness, you should try to find a way to keep up your good work.
So, how do you do that? One of the most important things is to give yourself specific goals. Simply saying you want to “work out more” or “lose weight” isn’t enough. It doesn’t give you anything specific to aim for.
If you’re struggling to pin down a specific fitness goal, work with an online personal trainer to come up with a training plan and goals to follow throughout the year.
Speaking to the publication, Mary Jane Detroyer, a registered dietician and personal trainer in the US, stressed that you need quantifiable goals. “If someone says ‘I’m going to go to the gym more often’ that person will probably never get to the gym because they don’t have a structure,” she said.
This is very sound advice - and something that any personal trainer will tell you. But it’s not all about your training. An article for GQ Magazine recently pointed out, quite correctly, that you need to focus on your diet just as much as on your training regime.
If you’re not putting the right kinds of foods into your body, you’re not going to get the benefits from your training sessions.
