How to get the perfect balance

How to get the perfect balance

How to get the perfect balance between training, nutrition, family time, work and sleep

You probably can’t! The likelihood is at least one of these will lack perfection at any one time.

For example, if you’re killing it at work, maybe that takes some of your energy when you’re with your family. Or maybe you’re focus is on your health, so your diet is on point, and you’re killing it in the gym, spending loads of relaxing time with the family, but perhaps you’re less focused on work.

The point is that it’s very difficult to have everything perfected at any time.

So, try not to be too hard on yourself when you don’t have everything perfectly balanced. Perfection is an illusion. It’s fugayzi, fugazi, it’s a whazy, it’s a woozy, it’s Fairy dust. It doesn’t exist. It’s never landed. It is no matter. It’s not on the elemental chart.

We can actually take a lot of solace in this because it means we don’t need to stress when one thing takes a hit. If you’re training or nutrition takes a bit of a hit because it’s the summer holidays, and you’re spending more time with the family, then that’s cool. It is what it is!

What can we do to keep things as balanced as possible

The key, is to keep a base level of everything. If your diet takes a hit, just ensure you keep some foundations in place, such as eating protein and veg with most meals. If you’re training needs to take a hit, see if you can just squeeze in 20 minute sessions. If your sleep needs to take a hit, then just try to get at least 6 hours if you can. You get the idea.

Think of the balance between training and lifestyle like a seesaw with equally sized kids on each side. It’s a good balance, but each side will go up and down.

This is how we should expect things to play out. Overall, pretty balanced, but with inevitable ups and downs.

Things won’t be perfect, at least not all the time, and that’s okay. We just need things to be good enough to keep you pushing forward!
